Day 61, Venice

We walked down to the Vaporetto terminal and hopped on the next boat to Venice Island.  We got off at St Marks Square to join a million or so other tourists.  Gondolas, people, souvenirs, alleyways - an assault on the senses!  It was the first and only time on our trip I felt overwhelmed by crowds, and was glad to leave the square to explore the alleyways and then take to the water again, stopping only once further along and then back to the serenity of Lido Island.
Late in the day we sat outside a bar, drank wine and watched watched people going by - all beautifully dressed, and often riding bicycles.  After dark we stopped off at a restaurant near the hotel and sat outside (again), drinking red wine and eating real Italian pizza. A nice way to finish the night.
