Day 40, Paris

After thinking about something unique to do for my birthday, we ended up doing the traditional romantic thing when you go to Paris, and that was a meal in the Eiffel Tower. I had thought about buying baguettes and sitting on the lawn and having a picnic, but security now prevents you from doing that.  There is a fence around the tower, which I guess is a good thing in this crazy world.
After a nice brunch and the obligatory photos, we picked up our bags from the apartment and caught the train to St Remy - about an hour on the outskirts of Paris.
Whilst waiting for Louise to pick us up we found a bar, le St Remy, and as it was hot we partook of a couple of bieres. They went down very well.
We had visited Louise and Stephane last when we took the kids on a world trip in 2007, so a lot of water had gone under the bridge for all of us since then.  It was nice to see that their house was as I remembered it, in a beautiful part of Paris, almost rural, at the end of the train line.
As per French tradition, we had a very long evening meal, starting at 7 and finishing, after many courses of beauftiful food and wine, around midnight. The highlight for me was the yummy birthday cake which Louise picked up for me at the local patisserie.
I think we rolled into bed at around 1.30am.
