As per usual, especially when in a place for not too long, we took another Hop On Hop Off bus. It was in fact just a Hop On bus as it didn't stop until the end, but that was ok as we rarely get off anyway. We ended up at a town nearby called Poole, which is really pretty and reminded me of the fishing villages in Cornwall. After a quick walk around and a beer in a quaint old pub we hopped on a ferry to Swanage, another quaint fishing town. We went mainly for the trip, which took us past beautiful white cliffs and rocks and hidden beaches and coves, until arriving in Swanage about an hour later. The harbour itself is Europe's largest, second only to Sydney in size.
Because we needed to get the last bus back to Bournemouth from Poole, we stayed in Swanage for only half an hour - just enough time to have a Cornish Pasty and a coke. The wharf had a lot of brass plaques inlaid in the timber, commemorating various things in people's lives, through the Sponsor a Plank Scheme. For £100 your name can be there and it contributes to the restoration and the maintenance of the pier. Cute.
We had tea at the Hop Inn, the corner pub down the road from the motel in Bournemouth.
