We moved out of our Airbnb and took an Uber to Hounslow - 30 miles, £24. Why Hounslow? Well in hindsight we could ask the same question. But in a nutshell we were hoping to catch up with cousin Dan during the week but forgot that he and Veronique both work, so we decided to stay on in London for three extra days. Because we were feeling miserly we chose the cheapest suburb, which was, you guessed it, Hounslow.
Upon our arrival at the V11 Hotel we faced our first obstacle, which was that neither the eftpos nor the wifi was working. That made payment difficult so we put that off till later, as we had to turn straight around and take three trains and a bus to Queen Elizabeth 11 Stadium at Enfield for Neil to play cornet at a soccer match. The walk from the bus was long and the weather was hot, so it was good to get there and have a beer. Neil was given a cute little blue cornet to play with the Enfield Brass Band and I enjoyed watching the soccer carry on as happens in Britain.
Getting back to Hounslow was easier - only two buses and a train. (Of course Neil discovered that he had left yet another jacket, this time his Brisbane band one, back at Enfield. He made the decision to donate it to one of the band members as a souvenir, rather than go all the way back to get it).
By the time we got to Hounslow the wifi was working, sort of, and we relaxed with a drink and an Indian meal. Our meal was punctuated by the sound of A380s skimming the rooftops as they made their descent into Heathrow, just up the road. Very interesting accommodation indeed.
