Day 56, Brossac

Neil and I took advantage of the fine weather again, and walked into Brossac to post a parcel to Chelsea.  For the first time on this trip it was easy. We also ran into Paul's neighbour, Monique, in the Spar.  It was nice to know people in the village, and I fully understand why Paul loves it here so much.
After lunch Paul saved us from a day with Charlie by taking us into Angouleme.  We had wanted to go there as it looked interesting on our brief train stop to Chalais two weeks ago, but we didn't think we would have the time.  Paul had some hardware shopping he could do there, so off we went.
What an amazingly funky place Angouleme is.  Apart from being very pretty, historical and a major centre for comic strip art (everywhere including on the buildings), it was hosting that weekend the Circuit International des Remparts 2016 - a major classic car show and street race. We were well entertained until Paul picked us up a couple of hours later.
On our way back to Brossac Paul wanted to stop in Barbezieux for coffee and cake, which we did. After that we ended up in a tour group walking around all of the old buildings in the town. Paul enjoyed it but it was a tad tedious if you aren't into that kind of thing.
This last evening we went to tea at the Clubhouse on the lake.  We had pizza, wine (a few) and listened to the jukebox until late.  A fitting end to our time in Brossac.
